    Wednesday’s Market

This week hosts our only Blue Moon until 2018!  It’s the 2nd Full Moon in a given month and quite rare – so rare that we are dared to do things we rarely do! Why not take advantage of that call and come down to Wednesday’s Market to celebrate?!  If you only patronize our Saturday Market, then you’re in for a treat – some vendors are Wednesdays-only and carry items that are not duplicated on the weekend.  It’s a great time to socialize after work, get over that middle-of-the-week hump, refilling your pantry with our homegrown goodness. Saturday’s Market

I have to admit, Okra is one of my favorite vegetables.  Whether you fry it, stew it, bake it, or pickle it, you’ll be speaking my language!  That’s why I’m so happy that it’s that time of the season, and it partners so well with more acidic vegetables like tomatoes, which are in season too! Did you know it’s also LOADED with what we need?  Iron, Calcium, Manganese and Magnesium, B-Complex and Vitamins A, K and Folates.  Even what some may consider off-putting, that ‘slimy’ characteristic actually assists in digestion! Please join me in celebrating The Mighty Okra – this Saturday, 8am until noon. ______________________________ Hester Produce and Cloverfield Farms…

    Saturday’s Market

One thing I recall from the Baby Book my parents kept for me, under “Baby’s First Phrase”, were the words “Corn and Beans”.  Yes, those were my first ideas that I began stringing together.  You can imagine how exciting this time of year is for me?! The Native American Iroquois added a third, Squash, to that combination, known to them as “The Three Sisters” and planted them altogether.  The squash creates a ground cover to discourage weeds, and the corn grows tall, supporting the bean vines – Growing in Mutualism!  I know I mutually enjoy these crops whether eaten together or separately. Make your way to the Person County Farmers…
