More on the grand, Grand Opening.

The grand opening of the Person County Farmers Market on Saturday, June4 was well received by the vendors and consumers. There were more than 500 people that attended the event and there was a wide selection of fresh produce, meats, eggs, and baked goods. We thank Dave Bradsher from WKRX for doing a live radio remote broadcast.

The Got To Be NC Shopping Cart was driven around the parking lot and was displayed at the corner of the lot for everyone to see. The Person County Tourism Development Authority had their own tent to display and promote Person County events. The Flat River Antique Tractor Group showed off three of their tractors. Bess Hester Whit, Person County Family and Consumer Science Agent cooked up some tasty treats throughout the morning, showcasing vendors’ products. Carl Cantaluppi played several upbeat selections on his clarinet to entertain everyone at the market.

Thanks also goes to the Person County Farm Bureau for their donation of six wooden benches for customers to use at the market, to Carl Cantaluppi, Person County Horticulture Agent, for obtaining the $30,000 Community Grant from RAFI-USA, and the Person County Commissioners for their donation of $14,000 to install lights and electricity at the market.

We encourage everyone to come out to the market on Saturday mornings from 8 A.M. 12 Noon and on Wednesdays from 3-7 P.M. to purchase food products from our local vendors.
